Varex Imaging’s THOR family are high speed, multi energy, direct converting x-ray detectors.

THOR Capabilities:

..giving THOR advantages over indirect converting detectors:

  • Multi energy readout:
  • segment materials with similar density in X-ray images, very difficult with indirect converting detectors
  • Filter out scatter X-ray: Ability to filter out parts of the spectrum, below a certain threshold, entirely
  • Ability to work as a very powerful line scanner in TDS mode: synchronize readout speed to product flow rates and acquire TDS images with up to 50mm of “line” depth
  • Extremely high speeds possible, over 1000fps
  • Extreme efficiency without loss of resolution, again much better than indirect converting detectors that need to deal with scintillator light spread
  • Extreme efficiency even at high energies: Possibility to use up to 3mm thick x-ray converting material to optimize capture of very high energy photons

HIGH ENERGY (HE) MODELS:

The robust dual-energy DC-THOR.HE photon counting X-ray detectors are optimized to work in harsh and hostile environments and are designed for applications requiring high energy X-ray or chemical isotope sources that need high-resolution images. Pipeline girth weld inspection or CT acquisition of turbine blades are typical application examples.

HIGH SPEED 10G MODELS:

Varex’s highest framerate product, the DC-THOR 10G photon counting X-ray detectors, are optimized for applications requiring rapid acquisition of images. Burst modes deliver even higher framerates for one-shot or intermittent operation. Inline-CT (Cone beam or helical) acquisition and drop testing are typical application examples.

  • Up to 3mm conversion layer thickness, for excellent efficiency at all energy bands, reaching to 450kV and isotopes
  • Up to 400x50mm imaging area
